Government launches three-month campaign to return Rs 1.84 lakh crore in unclaimed deposits, insurance, PF and shares
Union finance minister announced that financial assets totalling Rs 1.84 lakh crore remain unclaimed with banks and regulators in the form of bank deposits, insurance, provident funds and shares, and urged officials to ensure these are returned to rightful owners. The statement described statutory custodial processes by which unclaimed deposits transfer between banks, the central bank and investor protection funds, and highlighted the RBI's UDGAM portal as an access point. A three-month government campaign promoting awareness, access and action was launched to identify claimants, facilitate documentation and expedite lawful restitution of the assets.
