Central bank proposes major hike in bank lending limits for shares, IPOs, REITs/InvITs and allows acquisition financing
The central bank proposed raising bank lending limits against shares from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore and IPO financing from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh per person, and removing the regulatory ceiling on lending against listed debt securities, to broaden credit availability to investors. It plans to enhance limits for lending against REITs and InvITs, introduce an enabling framework allowing banks to finance acquisitions by domestic corporates (previously largely disallowed), and adopt a principle-based framework for lending to capital market intermediaries; draft guidelines will be issued shortly.
