Performers' rights group to pay ?4.5 crore to non-featured musicians, chorus singers and session artists in first phase
A performers' rights association announced that, for the first time in the country, royalties will be paid to non-featured musicians, chorus singers and session artists as well as singers. In an initial phase the association will distribute ?4.5 crore, paying dues to 62 of 88 musicians and 40 of 61 chorus singers, with further payments pending receipt of metadata and membership confirmation. The association cited top-performing songs as royalty sources and urged non-featured artists to come forward, register and provide data so their performer rights can be enforced and royalties distributed.
