IBSA says unilateral tariffs and discriminatory trade measures violate WTO rules and urges urgent restoration of binding dispute settlement
IBSA member countries criticized recent unilateral tariffs and coercive, discriminatory trade measures as inconsistent with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, warning such actions risk undermining the rules-based multilateral trading system, market stability and food security. They called for preservation of a transparent, non-discriminatory, open trading system with the WTO at its core, urged urgent restoration of an accessible, effective two-tier binding WTO dispute settlement mechanism (noting the missed December 2024 commitment), opposed protectionist agricultural measures contrary to WTO law, and reiterated support for multilateral reform, including of the UN Security Council.
