Ride-hailing drivers switch to higher government-notified per-km tariffs after regulator orders use of metered taxi fares
Drivers for major ride-hailing platforms in a western Indian state began charging government-notified, higher per-kilometre tariffs instead of lower app-listed rates after a regional transport authority directed aggregators to apply conventional metered taxi fares until app-specific rates are finalised. A drivers' union launched a website displaying the official table and said hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs are charging specified higher rates. The union has sought fare parity with metered taxis, a ban on bike taxis, permit caps, a welfare board and a state gig-workers law, and alleged misuse of provisional licences issued to companies operating bike taxis; transport officials did not comment.
