<h1>Partner and surveyor convicted for conspiracy, cheating and multiple forgeries in 2006 fire insurance claim; given five-year terms and fines</h1> A CBI court convicted two private individuals - a partner in a manufacturing firm and a surveyor - of criminal conspiracy, cheating and multiple forgery offences in a 2006 fire insurance claim, finding they submitted forged bills and vouchers to exaggerate loss. The court sentenced both to five years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed fines of Rs 45 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively. Investigation found a pecuniary advantage of about Rs 36.86 lakh; four accused insurance officials were acquitted and one co-accused died during trial after extensive prosecution evidence.
