Civil society urges linking Right to Development with climate justice, calling for funded, gender-responsive, equitable, low-carbon regional development
A civil society organization organised side events and made oral interventions at the UN Human Rights Council session to promote a regional development model combining connectivity, sustainability and community participation, and to link the Right to Development with climate justice. Speakers highlighted regional achievements, urged gender-responsive, adequately funded climate action, and called on developed States to accept historical responsibility for emissions and to scale climate finance beyond existing commitments. The interventions pressed for equitable burden- and benefit-sharing, enhanced South-South cooperation, and integration of climate resilience into development planning, framing these demands as necessary to fulfil human-rights obligations and enable low-carbon, inclusive growth.
