Opposition alleges government leased 1,050 acres and one million trees to private company for 2,400 MW plant
The opposition alleges that the national government transferred 1,050 acres and 1,000,000 trees in a district of Bihar to a major private industrial group for a 2,400 MW power plant on a concessional lease of Rs 1 per year for 33 years, with a project cost about Rs 21,400 crore. It claims the project was initially to be state-built, that land was acquired under coercion and villagers restricted from protest, and that electricity produced will be sold to local consumers at higher rates than in other states. Central, state and corporate parties have not publicly responded to the allegations.
