Major cross-border transit largely restored after political transition; passenger and cargo flows resume under tightened identity checks and monitoring
With the formation of a new government in the neighboring country, border operations at a major India-Nepal crossing have largely normalized: passenger and cargo movement resumed, identity checks were enforced, and stranded commercial vehicles were dispatched or returned. Roughly 20,000 people crossed that day versus a typical 50,000; more than 500 laden cargo trucks carrying fuel and food were sent across while hundreds of empties returned. Security outposts continue active monitoring. The crossing remains a significant export route for India, with imports minimal and limited largely to herbal medicines.
