Rupee slips 1 paisa to 88.03 vs dollar amid foreign outflows and stronger dollar; traders eye 87.90-88.40 range
The domestic currency declined by 1 paisa to 88.03 against the US dollar in volatile early trade, citing sustained foreign institutional outflows and a stronger dollar; GST rate cuts and lower global oil prices limited losses. The unit opened weaker, briefly strengthened to 87.85, then slipped to 88.03, and had recovered from an all-time low the prior day. A treasury executive forecast a trading range of 87.90-88.40. The dollar index rose modestly while Brent futures eased ahead of an OPEC+ meeting. Domestic equities surged at the open, and foreign investors sold equities worth about Rs 1,666 crore.
