Two arrested in inter-state pangolin trafficking probe after 1.35 kg pangolin skin seized; case under Wildlife Protection Act
Two suspects were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in coordination with the forest department for alleged involvement in an inter-state wildlife-trafficking ring; authorities seized 1.35 kg of pangolin skin (a Schedule I protected species), two mobile phones, an identity card and cash. The suspects reportedly admitted sourcing the skin from Madhya Pradesh and intended delivery to a buyer in Ayodhya, and alleged the gang supplied wildlife products to Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The forest department registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972; investigation into the wider network is ongoing.
