of <h1>DRI imposes penalties totaling Rs 283 crore in gold smuggling case involving actress, hotelier and two jewellers under COFEPOSA</h1> The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence imposed penalties in a gold-smuggling prosecution: Rs 102 crore on a Kannada film actress, Rs 63 crore on a hotelier, and Rs 56 crore each on two jewellers. DRI officials served each accused a 250-page notice with a 2,500-page annexure as part of an 11,000-page evidentiary disclosure. Authorities allege the actress landed with 14.8 kg of gold at an international airport after arriving from Dubai. She was sentenced in July to one year's imprisonment under COFEPOSA; the High Court has scheduled further proceedings for September 11.
