Bilateral Joint Crediting Mechanism under Article 6.2 Agreed to Boost Carbon Trading, Investment, and Low-Carbon Tech Transfer
A South Asian government and an East Asian government concluded a memorandum establishing a bilateral joint crediting mechanism under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement to facilitate carbon credit trading, investment, technology transfer and capacity building for low-carbon projects. The mechanism treats both states as co-implementers, allows trade of generated credits without affecting the first state's nationally determined contributions, and is intended to reduce costs of expensive decarbonisation technologies and attract finance and expertise. Cabinet approval was obtained to finalise implementation rules and pursue similar pacts with other countries.
