<h1>Government-backed semiconductor maker launches pilot plant; aims first 'Made in India' chip, 500,000-unit daily capacity, 15m target by 2027</h1> A government-backed semiconductor manufacturer inaugurated a pilot facility in Gujarat and expects to roll out a first 'Made in India' chip soon; the pilot line enables customer testing prior to orders and has a peak capacity of about 500,000 units per day for assembly, packaging and testing. The company, collaborating with foreign technology partners, is investing roughly Rs 7,600 crore to build two facilities with combined capacity projected at 15 million units and plans full-scale operations by 2027. Qualification testing will begin shortly, commercial production is targeted within six to eight months to a calendar-year-2026 start, and the projects are expected to create over 5,000 jobs.
