New Waqf portal module enables widows, divorced women, orphans to apply for maintenance under Rule 8(2), Unified Waqf Act (1995)
A government ministry launched an additional module on a national Waqf management portal allowing widows, divorced women and orphans to apply for maintenance from Waqf-alal-aulad properties under Rule 8(2) of recently framed Unified Waqf Rules (2025) read with the Unified Waqf Act (1995). The module provides Aadhaar-based beneficiary authentication, online application and approval workflows administered by state/UT Waqf Boards, and Direct Benefit Transfer to bank accounts. The change legalizes and digitizes entitlement claims, aims to increase transparency and accountability in Waqf disbursements, and directs Waqf stakeholders to implement the module and raise beneficiary awareness.
