Rajya Sabha refers three bills to Joint Parliamentary Committee to scrutinise 30-day suspension/removal of arrested ministers
The Rajya Sabha approved a motion to refer three bills to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for scrutiny, including a proposal to allow removal of the prime minister, chief ministers and ministers who are arrested on serious criminal charges for 30 days; the bills seek amendments to the Constitution, the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. A government minister moved the motion; the Lower House had resolved to refer the bills to a committee comprising 21 members from it and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, which must report by the Winter Session likely in late November.
