<h1>Former corporate chair denied regular bail in Rs 2,700-crore fraud probe under PMLA; over Rs 5,665 crore assets attached</h1> The High Court refused regular bail to the former chairperson of a corporate group accused in a Rs 2,700-crore bank fraud, after the Supreme Court earlier denied interim bail. The enforcement agency, probing under the PMLA on Supreme Court directions from February 2024, provisionally attached fresh assets worth over Rs 550 crore and had earlier attached assets valued at Rs 5,115.31 crore. The accused was arrested and chargesheeted in 2024. Authorities allege group companies manipulated financials to obtain fraudulent loans, diverted funds causing insolvency and an over-80% haircut for public sector lenders, and treated attached properties, land and bank balances as proceeds of crime.
