Pilot training academy fleet shrinks after four trainer crashes; Rs 25 crore allocated for new trainers, SAF targets set
The government reported that a national pilot training academy lost four trainer aircraft to accidents over eight years, reducing its fleet from 24 in 2017 to 13-seven retired due to service life expiry-and allocated Rs 25 crore in FY2024-25 for new trainers. The academy expanded flying operations and opened an additional detachment. Officials flagged barriers to large-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) deployment, including high costs, fragmented supply chains and lack of policy incentives, and noted India's obligations under ICAO's CORSIA and approved indicative SAF blending targets of 1% by 2027, 2% by 2028 and 5% by 2030.
