Union Agriculture Minister orders strict control on urea use, fake fertilisers, and bio-stimulant certification
The Union Agriculture Minister directed state governments to prevent diversion of urea for non-agricultural uses and to curb the sale of fake fertilisers amid increased demand during the kharif season. States were instructed to form monitoring committees and enforce oversight to ensure genuine agricultural use. Only 600 certified bio-stimulants are to be sold, replacing the previously widespread uncertified products. The minister emphasized readiness for the upcoming National Mission on Natural Farming and urged states to enhance production of pulses and oilseeds. A conference on the rabi crop campaign will be held in September-October, requiring state participation and data collection on fertiliser needs. The government reaffirmed commitment to transparency in crop insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, mandating timely payments with additional interest for delays. Several states requested additional urea supplies and financial aid for crop damage caused by natural disasters.
