Government approves Rs 30,000 crore subsidy to cover losses of state oil companies selling LPG below cost
The government approved a Rs 30,000 crore subsidy to compensate three state-owned oil marketing companies for losses incurred from selling domestic LPG below cost over the past 15 months. Despite high international LPG prices, these companies did not pass the increased costs to consumers, resulting in significant financial shortfalls. The compensation will be disbursed in 12 installments to support the companies' procurement, debt servicing, and capital expenditure, ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply to households. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas will oversee the distribution of funds. This measure aims to protect consumers from global energy price volatility while maintaining the financial stability of the public sector oil firms.
