Government panel urges more talks on security and privacy for satellite-based highway toll system implementation
A government committee reviewing the implementation of a satellite-based highway toll collection system has recommended additional discussions focusing on security, privacy, and operational control. The current plan is to advance with corridor-based projects using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition FASTag system for barrier-free tolling on national highways. The satellite-based user fee collection system is not yet operational on any national highways. To improve tolling efficiency and enable seamless vehicle movement without stopping at toll plazas, the government intends to implement a Multi-Lane Free Flow Electronic Toll Collection system using existing technology. Requests for proposals to deploy the barrier-less tolling system have been issued or finalized.
