Women food entrepreneurs get ₹5.25 crore support to scale businesses beyond subsistence level
A national organization launched a ₹5.25 crore challenge to support home-based women food entrepreneurs across India. The initiative, funded by a foundation, aims to help women transition from subsistence-level operations earning under ₹4,000 monthly within 2 km radius to scalable businesses accessing broader markets. The 18-month program targets India's growing packaged food market, expected to reach USD 6.4 billion by 2029. The challenge seeks technology-driven solutions for business readiness, compliance, packaging upgrades, and digital visibility. Over 90% of women-owned businesses in India generate under ₹10 lakh annually, remaining outside formal enterprise categories. The initiative aligns with government schemes promoting women-led development and micro food processing enterprises. Participants receive financial rewards, mentorship, and access to a support ecosystem including various foundations and organizations. Applications are open for solution providers in marketplaces, packaging, logistics, compliance technology, and business services.
