Retail inflation hits 2.1 percent in June, lowest since January 2019, driven by falling food prices
Retail inflation dropped to 2.1 percent in June, marking a multi-year low not seen since January 2019. The Consumer Price Index-based inflation decreased from 2.82 percent in May and 5.08 percent in June 2024. The National Statistics Office attributed the 72 basis point decline primarily to subdued food prices, including vegetables, pulses, meat, fish, milk, cereals, sugar, and spices. This represents the lowest year-on-year inflation rate since the previous low of 1.97 percent recorded in January 2019.
