Assam inaugurates first water technology park showcasing advanced aquaculture technologies for fish farmer training
A water technology park was inaugurated in Assam, marking the state's first facility showcasing advanced aquaculture technologies including aquaponics, biofloc systems, and ornamental fish breeding. Established by an NGO in partnership with NABARD, ICAR, and other institutions at Sonapur near Guwahati, the facility aims to train fish farmers in modern production techniques. The chief minister noted that Assam doubled its fish production to 4.99 lakh metric tonnes between 2019-2024, becoming the country's fourth-largest fish-producing state. The government allocated Rs 8 crore for ten fishery cluster development projects this financial year to further boost the sector.
