Nineteen tonnes of contaminated soil from former pesticide factory incinerated following disposal of 337 tonnes toxic waste
Nineteen tonnes of contaminated soil from the former pesticide factory in Bhopal was incinerated at a disposal facility in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. This follows the disposal of 337 tonnes of toxic waste from the same site in previous phases. The 1984 gas leak disaster killed over 5,400 people and injured thousands. The waste, mixed with lime before incineration, generated over 800 tonnes of ash stored in leak-proof bags. A dedicated landfill cell is being constructed for permanent ash disposal. Pollution control officials confirmed emissions remained within permissible limits during the incineration process.
