62-year-old survives cardiac arrest using ECMO-CPR technology, makes full recovery after 21-day intensive treatment
A 62-year-old patient suffered a major heart attack and went into cardiac arrest while being transferred for emergency treatment. When conventional CPR failed to restore circulation, medical teams used ECMO-CPR, an advanced procedure that artificially circulates oxygenated blood while the heart is non-functional. This allowed doctors to perform high-risk coronary angioplasty and stenting. The patient later developed dangerous heart rhythm abnormalities requiring additional interventions including radiofrequency ablation. After 21 days of intensive care and multiple procedures, the patient recovered fully and was discharged home with normal heart function.
