Police wrongly arrest journalist due to mistaken identity despite valid press credentials shown
A police team from Delhi's Prem Nagar Police Station wrongly identified a journalist as a suspect in a criminal case involving cheating and conspiracy charges. The officers were tracking an accused person through mobile phone signals, which led them to a petrol pump where they encountered the journalist and his wife. Despite the journalist showing identification documents including press ID, Aadhaar card, and PAN card, the officers initially proceeded with apprehension due to name similarity and facial resemblance to the actual suspect. The incident was recorded on video and went viral on social media. Delhi Police subsequently issued an apology letter acknowledging the mistaken identity and confirmed no further action would be pursued.
