India Revises Income Criteria for Housing Schemes: EWS and LIG Limits Increased to Expand Access.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in India has revised the income criteria for eligibility under housing schemes for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Group (LIG). The income ceiling for EWS households has increased from Rs.5,000 per month to Rs.1,00,000 per annum, and for LIG from Rs.5,001-10,000 per month to Rs.1,00,001-2,00,000 per annum. This revision aims to allow more people to access credit and participate in housing schemes. The new criteria have been communicated to state governments, Union Territories, and relevant financial institutions.
