Investment policy drives fresh private and revamp projects in the urea sector, aiming to expand production capacity. A private Greenfield gas based Ammonia-Urea project in Burdwan, West Bengal, and multiple revamp investments in existing urea plants have been undertaken following the New Investment Policy 2008; the Government is considering a New Investment Policy 2012 to attract further investment. An annexure lists units, amounts spent, and pre and post revamp urea capacities by project status (completed, partially completed, under revamp), evidencing capacity increases across the sector as reported in a parliamentary written reply.
