China and the US were the largest plastic producers and waste generators. Globally, 40% of plastic waste went to landfills, 34% was incinerated, and only 9% was recycled. India used 6% of global plastic while accounting for 17% of the world's population, and exported 2.8 million tonnes of plastic products.
