Following a request by a government minister, the airfield will be developed as a joint-use facility. Currently, Hyderabad is the only operational airport in the state, but Warangal and Adilabad are set to expand regional connectivity under the UDAN scheme. The airfield previously served exclusively military purposes and will now support both defense and civil aviation interests.
