Tripura's Tribal Council Manages Schools with Uneven Teacher Distribution Despite Overall Favorable Ratios
The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) operates 1,387 primary schools with 30,273 students and 3,504 teachers, but 302 of these are single-teacher schools. Despite a favorable 9:1 student-teacher ratio overall, the Chief Minister acknowledged the need for better teacher distribution. The state has deputed 709 additional teachers and allocated Rs 1.20 crore for school repairs in 2024-25. Low birth rates and competition from English-medium schools contribute to declining enrollment. The dropout rate has improved from 0.90% to 0.5% at primary level and 27.10% to 10.4% at secondary level since 2017-18.
