Protesters Wear Black Armbands During Eid Celebrations to Oppose Waqf Amendment Bill Across Multiple Districts
During Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in parts of Karnataka, protesters wore black armbands to oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill. A state minister and supporters in Bidar participated in the peaceful protest, while similar demonstrations occurred in Mandya and Belagavi. In Kittur, protesters also called for the release of a political leader arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged links to a banned organization. The Union Cabinet recently approved the Waqf Amendment Bill with changes recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee, despite opposition from 11 committee members. The Home Minister confirmed the bill will be reintroduced in the current Parliament session.
