DTC's Liabilities Surge to Rs 65,274 Crore; CAG Highlights Operational Losses, Inefficiencies, and Delayed Projects
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) saw its liabilities increase from Rs 28,263 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 65,274 crore in 2021-22, with operational losses exceeding Rs 14,000 crore, as reported by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The report criticized DTC for lacking a Business Plan or Perspective Plan and failing to set benchmarks or conduct profitability studies. The bus fleet reduced from 4,344 to 3,937 buses, with delays in adding electric buses and a rise in overage buses. Operational inefficiencies included low fleet utilization and frequent breakdowns, resulting in significant revenue loss. Additionally, projects like the Automatic Fare Collection System and CCTV installation faced operational issues.
