Congress Leader Questions Assam CM on Misinformation Over New Urea Plant at Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation
A Congress leader has questioned the Assam Chief Minister about potential misinformation regarding a new urea plant at Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd in Namrup. The leader highlighted that similar announcements were made in 2015 and 2017, with the latest approval in 2025 increasing the project cost to Rs 10,601 crore. The Union Cabinet, led by the Prime Minister, recently approved the plant to reduce urea imports and enhance self-sufficiency, with a production capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes annually. The project will be funded through a joint venture with a 70:30 debt-equity ratio.
