India's 2024-25 Sugar Production to Drop 19% to 25.8M Tonnes as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat Output Falls
India's sugar production for the 2024-25 season is projected to decrease by 19% to 25.8 million tonnes, down from 31.9 million tonnes the previous season, according to the All India Sugar Trade Association. The reduction is mainly due to lower output in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Maharashtra's production is expected to drop to 8 million tonnes, while Uttar Pradesh remains stable at 9 million tonnes. Karnataka's output is slightly higher than initially estimated but still below last year's figures. Sucrose diversion for ethanol is expected to rise significantly. Total sugar availability is projected at 33.78 million tonnes, with exports at 1 million tonnes and closing stocks at 3.78 million tonnes.
