Rupee Gains 10 Paise to 87.21 Against Dollar as US Dollar Index Hits Four-Month Low; Market Volatility Persists
The rupee strengthened by 10 paise to settle at 87.21 against the US dollar, recovering from previous losses as the US dollar index hit a four-month low and crude oil prices remained subdued. Despite this recovery, domestic equity market volatility and foreign capital outflows, amid US recession fears and trade uncertainties, limited gains. The rupee opened at 87.37, fluctuated between 87.17 and 87.39, and closed at 87.21. Analysts attributed the recovery to weak US dollar index and declining US treasury yields. The dollar index fell by 0.58% to 103.35, while Brent crude struggled to surpass USD 70 per barrel.
