India Calls for Urgent Reforms in Global Governance to Address Climate Change and Fulfill Financial Commitments
India has criticized the current multilateral system for its inadequacy in addressing global climate change challenges, urging for urgent reforms in global governance to prioritize equity, justice, and action in climate negotiations. At the World Sustainable Development Summit, India's Environment Minister highlighted the need for developed countries to fulfill their financial and technological commitments to keep global warming within the 1.5-degree Celsius limit. The minister noted that the proposed USD 300 billion annual funding under the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance is insufficient compared to the required USD 1.3 trillion, leaving developing countries underfunded in their climate efforts.
