Cross-border e-commerce exports are supported through trade-finance and compliance assistance, E-Commerce Export Hubs, District Export Hubs, simplified courier-export procedures, reverse-logistics facilitation, logistics planning, duty-and-tax remission, and MSME export facilitation.

Separate corporate insolvency processes remain contested over foreign asset treatment, specialised resolution needs, and creditors' commercial decision-making.
Separate corporate insolvency resolution processes for VIL and VOVL are disputed following reversal of an earlier consolidation direction. Independent processes were preferred because the entities operate in distinct sectors and may require specialised resolution, while creditors' choice was treated as commercial wisdom not ordinarily open to tribunal interference. The dispute also concerns whether foreign oil and gas assets should be treated as VIL assets, against the background of VIL's conversion from co-obligor to corporate guarantor to ring-fence those assets from domestic business liabilities.

Revised Index of Core Industries adopts a new base year, adds iron ore, and revises sector measurement methodology.
The revised Index of Core Industries series adopts 2022-23 as its base year, replaces the former series and expands coverage to nine industries by including iron ore. Steel is measured using gross production data, while only raw coal is retained to avoid double counting. Weights are derived from the corresponding Index of Industrial Production series and normalised to 100. A geometric-mean linking methodology connects the former and revised series. June 2026 provisional estimates show overall year-on-year ICI growth, led principally by iron ore and electricity.

Risk-based export controls exposed alleged pharmaceutical diversion, prompting NDPS enforcement against transnational illicit opioid trafficking networks.
Risk-based export controls and intelligence-led enforcement under the NDPS Act, 1985 addressed an alleged attempt to divert an export consignment of high-strength Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets into illicit international channels. Enquiries with the International Narcotics Control Board and competent authorities indicated that the declared destination had been misrepresented. The action involved seizure of the consignment and arrests of persons alleged to be connected with the export arrangement and conspiracy. The operation emphasises risk-based profiling, export-control scrutiny, intelligence sharing, and international coordination against pharmaceutical diversion and transnational drug trafficking.

Renewed United States-Iran tensions, crude-oil concerns, global market weakness and reported foreign institutional investor equity sales added to investor caution. Broader domestic market indices nevertheless closed higher, with selected defensive and infrastructure-linked sectors recording gains.

Internal Ombudsman independence strengthens fair customer grievance resolution, prevents escalation, and drives institutional learning from recurring complaint patterns.
Internal Ombudsmen should independently review qualifying customer grievances to ensure fair, reasonable and timely internal resolution rather than mechanically affirming earlier decisions. Regulated entities should prevent eligible complaints from bypassing Internal Ombudsman review and should assess redress by the quality, transparency and fairness of outcomes, not merely complaint closure. Complaint patterns should be used for root cause analysis and institutional improvements, with Boards and senior management empowering Internal Ombudsmen and treating complaint trends as early-warning information. Technology may support analytics and faster processes but cannot replace judgment, empathy and impartiality.

APAAR consent procedures were questioned because a scheme described as voluntary may effectively require Aadhaar enrolment and condition educational access on an academic identifier. The Orissa High Court direction required the model consent form to give parents an express option to refuse consent or opt out before enrolment. Concerns included informed parental consent, withdrawal of consent, long-term storage of children's educational records and privacy protections. Educational circulars remain subject to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and any data-processing framework must comply with applicable consent requirements.

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) India is ready to meet up to 270 GW of peak power demand during summer season this year and the government would make it mandatory for thermal plants, especially those using imported coal, to run at full capacity if required, Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal said on Friday.

In 2024, the country was able to meet the peak power demand of 250 GW during summer against the projected demand of 260 GW.

Addressing a press conference here, Agarwal informed that thermal power plants in the country have sufficient coal stocks of 51 million tonnes, which is enough for generating electricity for 21 days.

"If we require, we will invoke Section 11 (of Electricity Act) for meeting the demand," Agarwal assured.

The Section 11 allows the government to mandate power producers to operate plants in a specified manner in extraordinary circumstances.

Earlier last year, the power ministry had invoked Section 11 and mandated plants using imported coal to run at full capacity to avoid any shortage of power in the country in view of demand projections.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal who was also present on the occasion said that there is sufficient domestic coal at present and the country's peak power demand is estimated to touch 335 GW in 2030.

Power secretary Agarwal informed that India had met peak power demand of 250 GW during summer season in 2024 against the projected demand of 260 GW.

He also assured that India is ready to meet the 270 GW of power demand during summers this year.

About the supply of fuel for coal-based thermal plants, the minister said that the proportion of blending of biomass pellet will be increased to 7 per cent from existing five per cent from April 1, 2025.

Earlier last year the government had mandated to increase blending of imported coal to improve the supply of fuel.

The minister said that at present, the blending of imported coal is about one per cent with domestic coal, which is well within our target.

About power generation from gas-based plants, the minister explained that the cost of gas-based power is Rs 14 per unit and the country has the capacity of producing 24 GW from such units.

Lal also informed that the carbon market will begin operations in the middle of next years.

"We are going to launch domestic carbon market in the middle of 2026. This will aid trading of carbon credits in the country," he said.

He also hinted that a new policy will be rolled out to deal with the issue of ROW (right of way) for urban areas for transmission projects.

The minister also informed that the power deficit is just 0.1 per cent in the country, which would be eliminated very soon.

About nuclear power for which a mission was announced in the Union budget this year, the minister said that its capacity will be increased to 16 GW by 2030 from 8 GW at present.

About fossil fuel-based power generation capacity, he said that it will be increased to 252 GW by 2030 from 220 GW at present.

He stated that fossil fuel-based plants have long-term power purchase agreements and they will be phased out only after completing their tenure.

On the financial health of power distribution companies, he said that discoms' outstanding dues towards gencos or generating firm has come down to Rs 20,690 crore from Rs 1.4 lakh crore in 2022.

He further said that the aggregate technical and commercial loss has reduced to 15 per cent in 2025 from 25.7 per cent in 2014 and it would be 10 per cent by 2030.

About electricity trade with the other nations, he informed that an undersea transmission line entailing investments of Rs 40,000 crore connecting Dubai is planned.

The minister also stated that average electricity supply in rural areas has increased from 12.5 hours in 2014 to 22.6 hours in 2025, and in urban areas to 23.4 hours in 2025.

He also informed that 1 lakh EV charging stations will be installed by 2030. PTI KKS HVA
