        Union Finance Minister to Inaugurate the Annual Conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax

        The Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee would inaugurate the 28th Annual Conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income-Tax on Monday, 11th June, 2012 .The two day Conference would be held on 11th and 12th June, 2012 at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital. The Minister of State for Revenue Shri S.S.Palanimanickam would also grace the occasion. On this occasion, the Finance Minister Shri Mukherjee will also release “Let Us Share”- Vol. V’- a compilation of best practices and orders of the Department.

        The Conference would commence with a presentation on “Economic Development, Governance and Taxation” by Dr. Kaushik Basu, Chief Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance. It would be followed by a talk on “Technology Trends and Implication for Tax Administration” by Shri Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, UIDAI.

        The Conference is an annual exercise for the senior officers of the Department to deliberate upon significant initiatives undertaken by the Department to rationalize tax structure, strengthen tax administration and improve tax-payers’ services. It is also a forum for discussing the challenges being faced by the Department in meeting its goals. Presentations/ discussions will be held on important issues such as Exchange and Sharing of Information with other Tax Administrations, Latest Trends on International Taxation and Transfer Pricing, Central Action Plan for 2012-13, National Judicial Reference System, Overview of recent Audit and Judicial initiatives undertaken by the Department, Ethics in Governance and Taxpayers Service, Direct Tax Code, Areas of Revenue Mobilization and Augmentation, Human Resource Management, Tackling Refund Frauds and Emerging Needs of In-Service Training in the Department, New Management Information Systems regime, etc.

        The Conference would conclude with a valedictory address by Shri Palanimanickam, Minister of State (Revenue) on Tuesday,12thJune, 2012.
