Globally, over 9,400 extreme weather events resulted in more than 765,000 deaths and direct losses of nearly USD 4.2 trillion. India experienced over 400 such events in the period. The report highlighted that countries in the Global South were disproportionately impacted. The World Economic Forum identified extreme weather events as a significant global risk, second only to armed conflict and war.
