Election funding allocated for carry-forward poll expenses and procurement of EVMs, with central government covering parliamentary costs.
Budget 2025-26 allocates funds to the law ministry for carry forward election expenditure from the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and for procurement and related costs of EVMs. The legislative department, as the nodal agency for the Election Commission, receives separate budget lines for Lok Sabha polling costs, voter identity card issuance, other election expenses, and EVM purchase. Carry forward expenditures function as bookkeeping to cover incurred election costs, with parliamentary polls funded by the Central government. EVM funding covers control units, ballot units, VVPATs, ancillary costs and supervised destruction of obsolete machines.
