India Allocates Rs. 65,592 Crore for Fertilizer Subsidies; No Stamp Scheme Planned, Says Minister in Lok Sabha.
The Government of India is not planning a stamp scheme for fertilizer subsidies. Instead, it provides subsidies on 25 grades of P K fertilizers and Urea, which is sold to farmers at a statutory price significantly lower than the production cost. The government covers the cost difference as a subsidy. Under the Nutrient Based Subsidy Policy, a fixed subsidy is allocated for these fertilizers, with the Maximum Retail Price set by fertilizer companies. For the fiscal year 2012-13, the government has allocated Rs. 65,592.13 crore for fertilizer subsidies, as stated by the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers in the Lok Sabha.
