        <h1>Fiscal health ranking puts Punjab last, prompting opposition calls for resignations and probe while government disputes findings.</h1> NITI Aayog's Fiscal Health Index ranks Punjab last among 18 major states for 2022-23, assessing quality of expenditure, revenue mobilization, fiscal prudence, debt indices and debt sustainability. The opposition blames the incumbent government for diversion of funds, low capital expenditure, reduced social services spending and rising unsustainable debt, demanding resignations and a probe. The ruling party says the fiscal decline was inherited, and that reforms, renewed revenue strategies, prioritized social spending and project clearances are underway to restore fiscal stability.
