Railway Minister Announces Minor Fare Hike Across All Classes to Offset Rising Fuel Costs Over Eight Years.
The Railway Minister announced a minor fare increase across all travel classes to minimize the impact on passengers while addressing rising fuel costs over the past eight years. The proposed increases range from 2 to 30 paise per km, depending on the class. For example, suburban second-class fares will rise by Rs.2 for a 35 km trip, while AC I passengers will see a Rs.163 increase for a 530 km journey. Despite these adjustments, the fare hikes will not fully cover the increased fuel costs. A dynamic fuel adjustment component (FAC) is also proposed to address future fuel price changes.
