On the sidelines of DRI Foundation Day, 9th Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting (RCEM) will also be held
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) will celebrate its 67th Foundation Day on 4th December, 2024, in New Delhi. The senior representatives from Indian law enforcement Agencies and senior officials of the CBIC shall also be present during the celebration.
The annual ‘Smuggling in India - Report 2023-24’ report, which highlights DRI’s performance and experience over the last financial year as well as trends in the field of anti-smuggling and commercial fraud, will be released during the celebration.
Additionally, DRI has been at the forefront of bilateral and multilateral customs cooperation through Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements (CMAA) with other nations, which emphasise information sharing and learning the best practices from other customs administrations' in the prevention and investigation of customs offenses.
Accordingly, on the sidelines of the founding day celebration, DRI will also organise Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting (RCEM) for effectively engaging with partner Customs organisations and International agencies like UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Narcotics Control Bureau (INCB) and Regional Intelligence Liaison Office-Asia Pacific (RILO-AP) for enforcement related issues. The various representatives from these organisations will participate in the meeting.
ABOUT DRI
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is the premier intelligence and enforcement agency on anti-smuggling matters under the aegis of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), Government of India. It came into existence on 4th December 1957.
With its Headquarters at New Delhi, 12 Zonal Units, 35 Regional Units and 15 Sub-Regional Units staffed by a little over 900 officials, DRI has been carrying out its mandate of preventing and detecting cases of smuggling of narcotic drugs & psychotropic substances, gold, diamonds, precious metals, wildlife products, cigarettes, arms, ammunitions & explosives, counterfeit currency notes, foreign currency, SCOMET Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies) items, hazardous & environmentally sensitive materials, antiques etc. and taking punitive action against the organised crime groups engaged therein. DRI is also engaged in unearthing commercial frauds and instances of customs duty evasion.
Anti-smuggling enforcement cooperation: DRI to release national smuggling report and host a regional customs enforcement meeting. DRI will release the annual Smuggling in India report and convene a Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting to strengthen operational coordination and information sharing under Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements and in partnership with international agencies for enforcement-related matters. The agency serves as the central anti-smuggling enforcement body under the tax and customs authority, responsible for intelligence-led prevention, detection and investigation of smuggling, commercial fraud and customs duty evasion across a range of prohibited and sensitive goods.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
