India Confirms No Pending SEZ Proposals for Bihar; 39 SEZs De-notified Due to Economic Factors.
The Government of India confirmed that no proposals for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from Bihar are pending. As of September 2011, there are 582 approved SEZ proposals, with 382 notified and 148 actively exporting. SEZs are primarily driven by private investment under the SEZ Act, 2005. The Board of Approval has de-notified 39 SEZs due to factors like economic downturns and tax impositions. These include sectors such as IT, biotechnology, and textiles. Developers are either not availing duty benefits or are refunding them. The total investment in SEZs is approximately Rs. 2,77,259 crore.
