G20 Agrees to Remove Food Export Restrictions for WFP; India Stresses Domestic Flexibility in WTO Agreements.
At the G20 Summit in Cannes, France, in November 2011, member countries, including India, agreed to eliminate food export restrictions and extraordinary taxes on food purchased for non-commercial humanitarian purposes by the World Food Programme. They also supported a declaration by the World Trade Organisation for its Ministerial Conference in December 2011. India emphasized that existing WTO agreements should not limit the ability of countries to address domestic concerns. This information was provided by the Minister of State for Commerce, Industry, and Textiles in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
