The details of area covered by Virginia tobacco under the Tobacco Boards’ registration in Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka during 2009-10 & 2010-11 and the quantum of Virginia tobacco produced in these two states during the same is as under:

The Tobacco Board with its wide network of qualified and trained technical staff implements various extension & developmental programmes for improving the productivity and quality of tobacco. Various steps including supply machines for tobacco transplanting, topping & suckering operations and pesticide application have been initiated. To reduce Non Tobacco Related Materials (NTRM) problems, increased quantities of tarpaulins have been supplied to the tobacco growers.
This information was given by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Textiles in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

Annual figures report area and production of Virginia tobacco in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for 2009-10 and 2010-11, with the Tobacco Board as source.
