        The average annual contribution during period 2004-05 to 2009-10 to GDP by Food Processing Industries (Registered & unregistered) was of the order of Rs.55788 crore. As per NSSO 62nd Round Data, in the unorganized Food Processing Sector, 6.3 million persons were employed during the year 2005-06. According to Annual Survey of Industries 2007-08, there were 1.5 million persons employed under registered Food Processing Industries.

        Many of agro based industries are promoted under the policy and schemes formulated by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Following are the major Schemes under Ministry of Food Processing Industries: Scheme for Infrastructure Development; Technology Up-gradation/Establishment/Modernization of Food Processing Industries; Quality Assurance, Codex Standards and Research & Development and Promotional Activities; Up-gradation of Quality of Street Food and Strengthening of Institution.

        This information was given by Shri Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
